Travel Diary: Still in Hoi An Day 9

on

Another full day in Hoi An with no real plan… just wandering. We stepped out of the hotel and let the streets lead us, with only one mission in mind: to find that little stamp shop that can turn one of our photos into a custom piece. No map, no rush… just exploring until we stumble upon it.

We wandered through Hoi An’s pedestrian streets in the soft morning quiet, the town still gently waking up around us.

With the shops yet to open, we found a spot to sit and wait, sipping fresh juices and watching the day slowly unfold.

As we continued walking, little details kept catching our eyes, like what looked like Chinese public art—though it turned out to be the ornate façade of a restaurant, blending history and everyday life so seamlessly.

Everywhere we looked, there was something to take in..

We ducked into the alleyways, where it was quieter, more intimate … narrow paths, weathered walls, and little pockets of everyday life that feel untouched by time.

It turned out to be perfect, especially when a group of women passed by in their traditional attire, adding a beautiful splash of culture and colour to the scene.

After all the walking, we finally gave in and treated ourselves to a foot massage…such a welcome relief, and honestly, one of the best decisions of the day.

Back out on the streets, more bursts of colour greeted us at every turn. There’s lanterns, painted walls, and vibrant shopfronts that made even the simplest corners feel alive.

We also passed by the Precious Heritage Art Gallery Museum, which deserves a post of its own. Even from the outside, the photographs on display were powerful and captivating.

We ended the stroll with lunch at a beautifully photogenic restaurant. It’s one of those spots where the setting is just as memorable as the meal.

On this warm day, we kept wandering until we finally stopped for a refreshing drink.

And then, almost without noticing, day turned to night. The lanterns flickered to life one by one, and suddenly Hoi An was glowing … warm, magical, and even more enchanting than before.

We joined the queue to release a lantern along the river, something we had been looking forward to. It was such a simple yet memorable experience, watching the soft lights drift away on the water along with everyone’s quiet wishes.

Not long after, it was time for dinner. We found a spot that felt just right, and as luck would have it, there was live music playing. It was an unexpected bonus that made the evening feel even more special.

So that was our last full day in Hoi An.

Yes I know this is quite far from where you are. That is what I am feeling whenever I think of some countries in Europe. Oh well, I am happy to take you along… anytime.

A very evocative post Teresa, beautifully capturing the charm of Hoi An in words and photos! I’m glad you visited the Precious Heritage Art Gallery – we thought it was wonderful 😀 And getting out early in the morning you saw the town at its best, before the crowds arrived.
