Interesting Architecture

“There are no straight lines or sharp corners in nature. Therefore, buildings must have no straight lines or sharp corners.” – Antoni Gaudi

Talking of Interesting Architecture, let me start of with this architecture from the city centre of Melbourne.

Unlike traditional public spaces, like Venice’s San Marco or New York’s Rockefeller Centre, Fed Square is made up of a series of interlocking and cascading spaces, opening at all angles into the city and creating unexpected connections and vistas. – fedsquare.com

Prague’s Dancing House has an unusual shape. It reflects a man and a woman dancing together.

The Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao represents an architectural landmark and innovating design that represents the art exhibits that it stands for.

The Hundertwasser Museum in Vienna, follows the Hundertwasser design which is multicoloured, uneven, curvy and swervy.

Probably the most famous piece of modern architecture in London, The ‘Gherkin’ which is a type of cucumber done in futuristic style.

The last few architectures are by well known Spanish architect Antoni Gaudí and can all be found in Barcelona.

Today, more than 135 years after the first cornerstone was laid, construction still continues on the Basilica. The Sagrada Família architecture is truly exceptional.

Like most of Antoni Gaudi’s other structures, Casa Batllo is one of the finest examples of Art Nouveau.

This third architecture by Gaudi is the Casa Mila, popularly known as La Pedrera, is a most unusual building, with its surrealistic approach to design.

    1. Teresa says:

Once I started looking for them I couldn’t stop.

      1. Toonsarah says:

Haha, I know that feeling – it happens to me with certain challenges, especially the colour ones!

A wonderful tour of architecture around the world Teresa. Not sure how I missed the “Dancing House” in Prague! Perhaps in an area of the city we missed??? I suppose I’m a true traditionalist but Gaudi’s work leaves me unimpressed and I find myself wondering how well it will stand the test of time. I realize I’m very much in the minority on that however!

    1. Teresa says:

The Dancing house is just near everything so we saw it night time and the next day in the morning as well. Maybe next time.
Oh, I love Gaudi’s work but as the saying goes art is subjective.
      Thanks for the comment Tina!

The only place I already visited is the Guggenheim museum in Bilbao.
Still so many interesting places to go to….

    1. Teresa says:

I wasn’t able to go inside the Guggenheim museum in Bilbao though. We just had time to see the facade.

I’m not familiar with the Melbourne one or the Prague one both of which give food for thought. A great selection.

    1. Teresa says:

The Melbourne one was built in 2002 and is right in front of Flinders Train station. The design had mixed reviews at first but I think Melburnians have grown to love it now.
And I don’t know, maybe the Dancing House wasn’t as popular too because Tina wasn’t able to see it as well.
Thanks for the nice comment Maris.

Thanks Dora you are so sweet. Yes, likewise I do share with my husband some of the posts in WordPress that I find interesting.

  10. I don’t mind the Gherkin at all, though the Londoners who took a walk with me around it pretended to dislike it so much that they faced away from it.

    1. Teresa says:

I wonder why? But it is funny how they named their buildings – The Cheesegrater, the Walkie Talkie.

  11. Except for the opener, I recall the others. Barcelona’s architecture captured and held my attention. Glad to see a night view of what I call Fred and Ginger. Thanks for the outstanding collection.

    1. Teresa says:

Thanks also for the visit Frank, glad you liked them.

Ah, love these, Teresa! The dancing house I was in for when covid came along – so we have yet to see it! And the Hundertwasser Museum in Vienna looks a must see!

    1. Teresa says:

Bad timing huh. BTW the museum in Vienna is just 3 minutes walk away from Hundertwasser House which is the same type of architecture.i was so angry with myself that we missed the other one when it was just so near.

      1. Leya says:

Next time I Will visit too!

Thanks for liking -For some reason I was not able to get your blog, but happy I can get on now – I would not have missed your Gaudis for the world. My son had a few years ago his internship on the same plaza as the cathedral. He was a little blase (minimizing) about it, seeing it 5 days out of the week for a year:) Beautiful – thanks for sharing, Teresa!

    1. Teresa says:

My pleasure. It’s not surprising because I don’t see some of the blogs too. I just search for it whenever I put my own blog post on. Have a good day my friend ❤️
