One of the places that was high in my bucket list is Scotland and more specifically, the Scottish Highlands. Whenever I look at Instagram photos, I can almost feel the calmness of the place. And here we were, hubby and I and also with my cousins Rick and Connie.
To continue with the topic of Scotland, let me take you for a ride and a bit of a walk around this magnificence of nature. So… in my previous post we were at Tulloch Castle in Dingwall and this was our way back to Edinburgh.

This was our view of the main roads from the window of our car.
The Highlands of Scotland is a mountainous region, the centre of which is Loch Ness. It is known for its mythical monster called “Nessie”. Unfortunately, I didn’t see her/him. The city of Inverness is known as the “Capital of the Highlands” and it had a great exhibition about Loch Ness and its legendary monster, Nessie.
From the road we had a good view of the Corgarff Castle on a hilltop.
We went down and walked halfway up the hill. There was an Artwork by Strathdon artist Louise Gardner and carved into the stone are the following words:
Take a moment to behold
As still skies or storms unfold
In sun rain sleet or snow
Warm your soul before you go.
Such wonderful words to think of as we continued on with our walk.
Next stop is the Scottish highlands town of Braemar, which is surrounded by mountains and unspoilt and unpopulated countryside.
It has a lovely looking village , which has a variety of boutique shops and places to eat.
Braemar has wells, rivers, creeks, waterfalls, churches and bridges. It is just fantastic to have a bit of a stroll and see the friendly people.
Next stop was The Caledonian Canal at Fort Augustus Loch in the southwest end of Loch Ness. We saw the loch gates opening and as it opened and closed the spectators were clapping with excitement. (I wasn’t sure if this was a normal occurrence or if there were many tourists in the lot.)
Walked around the place a bit.
Ben Nevis is the highest mountain in the British Isles. Everywhere you look was simply magnificent.
Another place to see in the Highlands is Loch Leven, where the Glencoe Boat Club is located. It provides a beautiful vista of sailboats set amongst the hills.
Loch Locky, Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park and the Falls of Dochart
Nice to see that Nessie is still alive and kicking 😉

You had a fabulous time, didn’t you, Teresa? The scenery around Ben Nevis is truly stunning and your photos do it justice. I love those huge skies, dominated by peaks, and the canal was a bonus. Thanks so much for taking me there. I enjoyed every second.
