Queenstown

TRAVEL DIARY: DAY 8

QUEENSTOWN

Walking through town from our hotel, it was easy to see why Queenstown calls itself the adventure capital. There are so many thrill-seeking activities—skydiving, jet boating, bungy jumping, you name it!

Well not for me thank you very much

Sometimes it’s best to just wander around Queenstown. This wharf’s a great spot to chill and soak in the views of Lake Wakatipu, the mountains around it, the ducks and the town.

Queenstown has such a different vibe from the other South Island towns that we have been to (except for Christchurch). It is fun, vibrant and very touristy. There’s all these food carts by the lake that it is so confusing to decide what to get.

Decision made. We had churros and ate it by the lake while waiting for our jet ride

My sister-in-law did the jet boats a few years ago when she was here — and we couldn’t let her have all the fun! So we hopped on for a wild 60-minute ride with crazy 360° spins and top speeds. So glad we did… it was a blast!

Then back to the marina…

We saw this statue that we walked past is actually of William Gilbert Rees — the founder of Queenstown. Who knew?

Then had Pho for an early dinner at the steamer Wharf. Steamer Wharf is situated right on the edge of Lake Wakatipu.

It had been a full-on day, and we ended it with a walk back to the hotel.
