We are ONE

… We are one, but we are many
And from all the lands on earth we come
We’ll share a dream and sing with one voice
“I am, you are, we are Australian” – lyrics for I am Australian

This is the work of British born artist Hayley Welsh. It used to be in one of the street corners in Fitzroy North but I think it’s gone now, together with the small gallery that’s beside it.

Hayley has established herself as one of the most exciting creatives in the street art scene. Her work is recognisable… whimsical street art with fluffy wide-eyed creatures. This particular one is tiny compared to the other murals that she has done all over the world.

  1. What an adorable one eyed wonder. Sure lives up to the ONE at least.

Haha true. It is just sad that they paint over it.

Sweet – reminds me of one at Curtain in Perth!

    1. Teresa says:

I like her style…it is cute.

Such a sad expression! Are you out of lockdown now, Teresa?

    1. Teresa says:

No, not yet…thanks for asking Jo. There are 11 cases today and they’re waiting for it to be 0 cases before they will be able to lift restrictions. But situation is bad in Sydney.

      1. restlessjo says:

It’s a different attitude than here, Teresa. Most people who want to be have been vaccinated by now and are relying on that for safety. There were around 40 cases in Tavira last week with a big influx of tourists.

        1. Teresa says:

I know, it is just different depending on those that govern the country. We just have to get used to things. Be safe Jo!

I’m at the beach and it’s quite busy but there’s loads of space and people are mostly respectful. 🤗⛱️💕

I know. I love her work too!

I adore that saying. The creature is a bit too much playing on childlike features to tug at my heartstrings but the technique is great.

    1. Teresa says:

Thanks for the comment. The saying is in fact a song about Australia.

      1. eklastic says:

I didn’t know that. But it holds true for the rest of the world as well.

        1. Teresa says:

          Yes it does! ❤️

  8. Got a couple of hers on my other blog taken in London a few years ago: https://urbanartalacarte.blogspot.com/search?q=hayley+Welsh

I love the sentiment in the song as well as the artwork 🙂 When I first saw your post I thought it was going to be a submission to the current Sunday Stills challenge, https://secondwindleisure.com/2021/08/08/sunday-stills-song-lyric-photo-challenge-summers-of-my-dreams/. You should think about adding it as it’s a perfect fit!
