Verona in Monochrome

There’s no set theme for this week’s Monochrome Madness Challenge, so I’ve decided to feature monochrome shots from my travels.

This is Verona in Italy. Wandering through the narrow lanes, you’ll find yourself surrounded by history and stories — from ancient Roman ruins to Renaissance palaces.

Verona is a city that feels like it was made for romance. With its cobblestone streets and sun-warmed stone buildings, it’s easy to see why Shakespeare chose it as the setting for Romeo and Juliet.

One of the most visited spots is Juliet’s House (Casa di Giulietta). There, travelers gather in the small courtyard to see the famous balcony and touch the bronze statue of Juliet, said to bring luck in love.

Although I’ve been to Italy many many times I’ve never been to Verona so it’s nice to see these shots. I’m afraid I don’t buy into the Juliet’s balcony thing though seeing as Juliet was only a fictional character and not real. Have you ever seen the romantic drama/comedy film Letters To Juliet? Stars Amanda Seyfried (Mama Mia) and Vanessa Redgrave and features romantic notes posted on the wall of Juliet’s house. I saw it on tv a few years ago and liked it enough to get the dvd. It’s worth a watch if you haven’t seen it.

It is just something different, but too many tourists. I think I have watched that movie too…very chick flick it is. Thanks Eunice.

It was a hot city when I was there, which doesn’t come through in mono, but you’ve got the character of it, Teresa xx

No not too sunny when we went. But love all the restaurants around.
