Pirianda Garden

Jack and I figured autumn was almost over, so we wanted to catch the last of the leaves before they all dropped. I found Pirianda Garden in the Dandenong Mountains on Google—we hadn’t been before, so we thought we’d check it out. But when we got there, I hesitated. The walk looked seriously steep. And as some of you know, my knees aren’t exactly what they used to be. Still, I thought, “Why not?” and gave it a shot.

We didn’t make it all the way to the end. I think we walked for about an hour—which, let’s be honest, probably would’ve taken younger people about fifteen minutes. But hey, we took our time, enjoyed the view, and counted that as a win.

I am linking this to Jo’s Monday Walk Challenge. This is the entry to the garden.

There is even a house on the grounds which I am not sure if somebody really lives there right now.

Another arrow telling us to go down some more. But nope that’s it for me.

Started climbing back up by now while huffing and puffing. Haha

Different tree trunks that I observed along the way.

I am also linking this walk to Ritva’s Lens Artist Photo Challenge where we’re talking about breaking the rules in photography. I’ll be honest—I’m not a pro when it comes to taking photos. My process is usually just point, shoot, do a bit of editing, and post. I don’t really think much about composition or the “rules” of good photography, so I’m not even sure what most of them are. But maybe this is a good chance for me to explore and see what happens when I try to break a few—whatever they might be!

Rule of thirds or not?

Blurry Subject can sometimes work but I don’t know if this one does.

With my iphone, I focus on a subject but sometimes it has its own mind on where to focus.

I was trying to capture a beautiful autumn day—leaves everywhere, people strolling, some walking their dogs. Then, just as I took the shot, this man bent down to tend to his dog right in the frame. Not exactly the planned composition, but hey, I guess that counts as breaking the rules! Worked out pretty well for this challenge.

Some say to always Shoot in Landscape Orientation. But for a person who loves Instagram, I tend to shoot in Portrait especially when I do phone photography. Portrait orientation emphasizes verticality which is great for tall scenes.

They say to always keep the horizon straight but sometimes tilting the horizon adds energy or a sense of action.

Haha I just googled it. But it didn’t say how steep the roads were. It is not for me.
