Phillip Island has always been my go-to place. No matter how many times I’ve been, it never gets old. There’s something about the mix of wild coastline, chilled vibes, and the sound of waves that just resets everything. Whether it’s grabbing fish and chips by the beach, watching the pelicans having their daily feed or just walking the main street where it always feels like exactly where I need to be.
This month, my brother-in-law is visiting, so I immediately thought of taking him to Phillip Island.
On the way there, we stopped at San Remo, the gateway to the island. It’s a charming spot where you can watch pelicans being fed daily at 12 noon—a fun and unique experience. I actually shared about this recently in a post when I took my sister there during her holiday visit.

It’s funny how cheeky and greedy some birds can be—like this one! It grabbed the fish and ran off, making sure the others didn’t get a chance to share the loot. Classic little thief!

The next stop on our walk was Churchill National Park, a beautiful spot rich in both nature and history. As we explored the park, we came across several historical buildings and remnants from the past, giving us a glimpse into the area’s early settlement and farming days. It’s a peaceful place where nature and heritage blend together perfectly.

There’s also a seat with games for children, conveniently located and easy to access.

I’ve taken photos of these before, but these are some new shots. Here are a few of the doors you can find around the property.

One of the highlights for me is always the animals—there’s something so comforting about seeing sheep grazing in the fields, dogs bounding around with energy, horses calmly watching from their paddocks, and goats curiously wandering about. But at the very top of my list are the Highland cows. With their long shaggy coats, sweeping horns, and gentle expressions, they’re absolutely captivating. I could watch them for hours!

I can never resist stopping to smell the flowers—it’s one of those simple joys I always make time for.

And of course, Fish and Chips is at its best at this coastal town.

There are also some colourful mosaic public art along the walkway—easy to miss if you’re not paying attention, but definitely worth a glance. Just look down, and you’ll spot them adding a touch of charm beneath your feet.

As we made our way home, the sun began to set—painting the sky with warm hues. It always feels like I’m leaving a little piece of myself behind each time.

This island (which I’ve barely heard of) looks an enriching place to visit. Thanks for taking us along!
Glad to take you with me. It is something different from the usual city adventure…a bit of city vibe but a bit of country feels as well. Thanks Margaret.
So much to like Teresa. I want to go to Philip Island for the MotoGP and Superbike racing
I guess it is a male thing haha Thanks Brian.
What a wonderful place to visit, I love all the animals especially the Highland cows.
Yay you and me both.
Wow, what a lovely place and that’s a lot of food amiga.😍
Haha naubos din. Thanks Arlene for commenting.
Wonderful photos!
I’ve only been to Phillip Island once, on a day trip from Melbourne.
One day is really not enough, and there is so much more to it as your photos show.
I’m not surprised it’s your go-to place. Thanks for sharing!
It’s great to know that you’ve been to Phillip Island. It is not normally a place to visit if you’re just in Melbourne for a short time. Thanks for commenting, Nes.
Loved all this post, no wonder you like going back and back. I missed it on our trip round Australia. So thanks for introducing us to it.
Yes, there is always a next time.
Teresa, what a beautiful island with so much to enjoy! Your pelican images are great! And I love the Highland Cows!
It is so easy to love the pelicans and the highland cows. These cows are not normally found in Australia so I guess these are imported from overseas.
It’s great that you got to share your go-to place with your brother, and easy to see why you love it so!
Another relative is coming soon so maybe it will be another trip here. Happy to share it also with you guys
You’ve got a beautiful go-to place! I was unaware of the island but Google Maps came to my rescue. It’s good that there is a bridge for people to use instead of a ferry.
Oh yes, the first time we went I had to enlarge the ever faithful Google Maps to see where we are going. Thanks John for the challenge.
A very full day…. 🙂
Yes, quite packed 👍 but fun.
It’s great to have a place that pulls you back, Teresa. It sounds like life has been pretty busy lately. Thanks for finding time to share with us xx
I know… and it still is. Everything will be back to normal next month hopefully. Thanks Jo.
Looks really marvelous Teresa. Never heard of it and most likely will never get that (but never say never, right?!) so thanks very much for sharing it with us. And thanks for joining us this wee!
My pleasure to get back into it. Became very busy this past month so hopefully will be able to join regularly soon.
What a delightful place, Teresa. I love the Highland cows and horses. The pelicans look so funny. Beautiful mosaics too. Thank you for your public art contribution.
Thanks too for commenting and telling me your favourites. The Pelicans are funny aren’t they?
what a lovely place
Thanks a lot Tanja, glad you liked it.
I can understand why this is your to-go place, Teresa. It looks like a wonderful place to spend a day. I love the seabirds (are those pelicans?) and the other animals. The doors are great, but I really love your photos that suggest farming scenes. They make me think of being there–I think I could sit on that bench for a good long time. The two little VWs are cute 🙂 The shaggy cow in the feature looks like a nice fellow, but that horse giving you that look, makes me think he knows something you don’t.
Yes it is such a wonderful place, that I can stay there for hours. And yes, those are Pelicans. And about the horse… when you enlarge it, it really is staring back at you and maybe saying “What is this lady doing?” Haha Thanks Dan for liking this post.
A lovely post! Pelicans are so much fun to watch – and I do love Highland Cattle.
