Asakusa & its Doors

As I wandered through Asakusa, I found myself slowing down for something most people probably walk past without a second thought—the doors. Unlike the ornate temples or the colourful bustle of shopping Streets, the doors here are simple, clean, and almost understated. Some are plain wooden panels softened by age, others are neatly painted with no decoration at all, or some with Japanese streetart… yet each one feels like a quiet reminder of how traditional this neighbourhood still is.

I loved how these doors framed tiny shops, old homes, and cosy eateries, giving me small glimpses into everyday life behind the tourist buzz. This is for Dan’s Thursday Doors Challenge.

And for Natalie’s Photographing Public Art Challenge

You have given me a very different view of Asakusa. I must admit the few times I ventured here, I was so overwhelmed by the crowds.

I do love how little treasures pop up on Tokyo streets. Suddenly a traditional front on a street of modern shops. A shrine at a street corner. A manhole design mostly overlooked. Such fun.

Very precise description, Ju-Lyn. Exactly why I loved it.
