This week on Dan’s CFFC, the topic is Detailed or Abstract or Both
Explored the ‘Spiders of Paradise’ exhibition of ‘Maria Fernanda Cardoso: at Bunjil Place in Narre Warren. I was so intrigued by this work. The details drew me in and made me stop and look closer.

This ongoing project began in 2014 and focuses on tiny Australian jumping spiders called Maratus, or “peacock spiders.”
The artist describes them as the most colourful and charming spiders in the world. Despite being incredibly small, they use colour, movement, sound and gesture in surprisingly sophisticated ways.
Most fascinating is the male’s courtship dance. He waves his legs, sways his body, makes sounds, and finally reveals his bright, fan-like abdomen, much like a peacock’s tail. The female watches closely and decides whether he is worthy.

And look how tiny it is.

So interesting!
It really is. At first I thought it was just an artwork but it’s real!
What a great project!
Definitely. Such great detail of a teeny weeny creature.
I think these are amazing and so beautiful
Thanks so much Cath.
Whoever knew there was a spider like that? An interesting post and I love your main photo, it’s so colourful.
Thanks so much Eunice. Glad I passed by the exhibition.
That’s amazing. “…and decides whether he is worthy.” Sigh, the fate of males everywhere 😉
Great photos.
Haha if you say it that way… But it’s funny how the males are always the ones very colourful. Thanks Dan.
