Japan has a talent for turning the ordinary into something charming. Even manhole covers, once plain and practical, they’re now colourful artworks showing local symbols, landmarks, and stories. Today, around 95% of Japan’s cities and towns have their own unique manhole designs, each reflecting local identity in a small but delightful way.
