“He who is outside his door has the hardest part of his journey behind him.” – Dutch proverb

The Palais des Papes or the Palace of the Popes is the most important building built during the Gothic period. I am featuring the doors for now, but to know more about the Palace of the Popes (please click here), to see some of the streets around Avignon (please click here).
Here are some entry doors, private apartment doors of the Popes, metal doors, arched entries. Discover the Palace as well as the town of Avignon in images.

Hubby and I strolled around to see more of the streets around the town. At times we walked together with some of the members of our tour group, but as you may know, walking with a big group is not at all fun. haha
We saw some of the old buildings as we strolled on our own.
The cobblestone streets of Avignon were bustling with activity. It is such a picture perfect town with shops, restaurants and cafes all around the town square.
We sat down in one of the cafes for lunch and enjoyed sipping on our favourite drink as we relaxed and watched the people go by … we just loved it!
Beautiful collection of doors 🙂
Thanks a lot!
Wow, beautiful, Teresa! Not enjoying being a part of a big tour group must be the characteristic of well traveled people, smile. We avoid it all cost as well! But the doors are grand! To be honest, I am Dutch, but I don’t know the proverb at the top. By now I have forgotten who I told and who not, because of another blog issue I changed my username from Jeshie2 to Emile. Have a lovely weekend, Friend, Emille.
Oh, Emille, so you are still having problems with your blog…that is a pain.
About the proverb…well that is just in the search engine 🤷🏻♀️😂
Haha there’s just too many strong characters in a tour group.
Have a good day my friend! ❤️Teresa
I haven’t been there for many years, so thanks for letting me drop by this lovely city, great doors, and awesome palace again…and at no cost with no Covid restrictions!! When I was there, I don’t even know if I was taking door photos as it was before I started my blog. I have to do a deep dive into my archives. I do have to wonder about the way that Catholic church spent “their” money, though. 🙂 Pretty sure there were people who could have used the help and the palaces didn’t need to be so big and ornate.

That is true, but most churches in Europe are all the same…extravagant!
I wasn’t into blogging yet too when I went there so I was surprised that I took so much photos of them.
Thanks Janet for stopping by.
It looks like you had a lovely visit. The doors are beautiful. I really like the photo of the arched entry and the one looking up the stairs.
Thanks Dan, glad you liked the,.
So many lovely doors! And there are few holiday pleasures greater than sipping a favourite drink in a French cafe and watching the world go by!
Well it was the best thing to do after walking for hours. ..and after having a big meal haha
Really loved the culture richness and the historical feel of the post – looks like a great place to visit
Yes, loved it too! Thanks for stopping by.
