“It is in your hands to create a better world for all who live in it.” – Nelson Mandela
In the 1870s the Mill in Castlemaine was once a woollen mill and carpet factory. In 2013, the new owners brought it back to life and is now evolving as a creative hub.
Back in 2017, Libre Hem created a mural for The Mill Castlemaine to honour the workers of the old Woollen Mill. It depicts depicts their working hands and the wool they spun into beautiful woollen products.
Alfredo LIBRE Gutierrez aka Libre Hem was born in TiJuana, Mexico and is both an artist and an architect. He started his artistic career in street art.

Fabulous mural and a great tribute to the mill workers. Thanks for participating in Monday Murals.
Always a pleasure! I was also impressed by the mural and its colour!
I love seeing the history being represented in murals.
I always try to search for that too. It is nice to know the story behind things.
You had me at the Nelson Mandela quote. He’s been an important influence in my life.
Oh yes, so true … a great man with great vision!
That is an awesome mural of the hands!
Thanks…I find it beautiful too!
Besides the colors, I love how well the hands are proportioned! Hands and feet are tough parts of the body to draw…nicely done!
I am aware that they are the hardest parts to draw. So I don’t try anymore haha
Well, you’re not alone lol…
