Tour of Imperial Europe

“Prague changes like a precious stone to reflect the weather, the time of day and the season of the year.” – Christian Norberg – Schulz

”We must not cease from exploration. And the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we began and to know the place for the first time.” – T.S.Eliot

Left London via Gatwick Airport.

My husband and I arrived at Prague Airport at 5:15 in the afternoon. It was already so dark since it was November. We were planning to get an Uber but couldn’t find one…and the easier alternative was to get a cab for €16. (when I did my research it was only €9 for an Uber… but oh well)

The good thing is, the cab driver was very accommodating and he told us where to go and where to eat at this time of the night. Our first dinner in Prague is the traditional Czech dish Prazdroj Beef Goulash. This is baked homemade potato pancakes (leavened bread dumplings), which we had at Tradice, a pub near our hotel. Also had sausage and Sauerkraut with bread….not bad really for a pub food!

And of course Czech beer is also a must!

We didn’t know anything about the transport system so we just took a walk around after dinner… and walked and walked … and walked!

We saw the iconic Dancing House also known as the Fred and Ginger House. It was so beautiful at night, so for sure we have to see this during the day as well!

The weather that night was quite mild, so we didn’t mind walking for almost two hours. The view of the Vltava River at night was amazing!

There’s something special about those first few hours in a new city, isn’t there? Just walking around, getting a feel of the place with no particular ‘sightseeing goal’ in mind 🙂

It is just the taking it all in…. no expectations… no itinerary … Nice to do it all again sometime soon. Can’t wait!
