Travel Diary in Namba – Day 12

Today we’re exploring the Namba area. Our first stop is Yasaka Shrine, famous for its giant lion head that looks both fierce and fascinating, and is said to swallow bad luck and bring good fortune.

So many quirky shops around the Namba area.

Walked all the way to Dotonbori which is a vibrant district in Osaka, packed with colourful signsages.

It was nice passing these quiet laneways for a change.

In one of the wide open squares Jack and I tried the viral dessert, Rikuro’s Cheesecake. This is an Osaka favourite, loved for its light, fluffy texture and freshly baked cheesecakes that jiggle straight out of the oven. For me it tastes a bit eggy but still a great experience.

Next, we took the Dotonbori River Cruise, which is a short, easy ride that let us see the neon signs and busy streets from water level. We went cruising under a bunch of bridges with some fun commentary along the way. They even took our photo in front of the famous Glico Man.

Had a sumptuous lunch of ramen topped with Kobe beef—easily one of the best dishes we’ve had. Sitting by the river afterward, watching the world go by, was the perfect way to pass the time.

Another of these 3D billboards… now it’s a dog.

We stayed in the area until the sun slowly turned to night, forgetting that we still had to catch the train—and that it was already peak hour. Oh well, a cab once again turned out to be the best option.

This was in 12 November 2025.

Yes quite scary looking, like it will swallow you alive. But I really wanted to see it because it is a unique temple. Thanks Wayne.

We didn’t get to Namba – that shrine with the lion’s head looks amazing! But we did enjoy a fun evening out in Dotonbori, so thank you for the memories from there 🙂

The lion head was not too far from Dotonbori. And the food was really amazing. Glad I was able to bring you back to wonderful memories.

What a fun day it must have been. I think I would have tripped on that last set of stairs because I would be so focused on the mural. 😮
