Streetart on Utility Doors in Christchurch

I’ve mentioned in some earlier posts from my South Island trip that Christchurch has some pretty amazing murals. This time, I came across something a little different—art on utility doors all over the city. It was such a fun little surprise to spot them as I wandered around.

A bonus find of a streetart and its doors on a container.

Naturally I love these, they certainly brighten up an area. It begs the question why it doesn’t happen more often in more places. I saw the same in Porto and in Shrewsbury. Bravo!

Yes, there’s a lot in Porto. But haven’t been to Shrewsbury. Thanks for commenting Scooj!

I’m with Steve on this, why doesn’t this happen everywhere? I love how the art transforms utilitarian eyesores into objects we love to see. That dumpster is a grand example. Thanks for sharing these photos.

I know. That is what I actually think about when I see un painted boxes with Graffiti on them.

These are great – I especially love the yellow flowers! It’s good to see more and more places encouraging the decoration of what are otherwise rather dull pieces of street furniture – I’d like to see it catch on here in London.

There would be in Bricklane, Shoreditch and Camden. But hopefully more places.

Even in Brick Lane and Shoreditch I don’t see many of these, but I think that’s because there aren’t many utility boxes around there perhaps.

  7. Awesome. You know I love to see murals and street art of any kind, Teresa! These are all excellent examples…full of vibrant colors. I love: Birds flock together, Kowhai flower, and the shipping container. I thoroughly enjoyed the share. Thank you.

Glad that people are into this. At first I thought it was just me. Haha

      1. Yes, it is a thing…a good one too, I think anyways. A blessed day to you Teresa. Cheers.

I love these, they are great, and I agree more places should do this. I’ve seen quite a few in Dublin and an odd couple in Manchester but none anywhere else.

Thanks Eunice.I think it depends on the vibe of the place. At least now they consider it as ’cool’
