Musee du Louvre

“My favourite thing to do is go where I’ve never been.” – Anonymous

It was a free day because we didn’t go with the optional excursion. We decided to go to Musee du Louvre for our last day in Paris.

The Musee du Louvre or just plain the Louvre is one of Paris’ most iconic attractions. It was first a medieval palace during the 12th century, then becoming a Royal palace. Presently, it is the largest museum in the world, spanning more than 60,000 sq metres of permanent collections.

The Louvre contemporary pyramid was designed by a Chinese-American architect I. M. Pei which is made of glass and metal.

The Louvre has 35,000 works in display so even though how hard you try, you can’t view everything in one day. (Your feet can’t handle it too!) The Louvre exhibits sculptures, paintings, drawings and archaeological finds.

Love these sculptures…so much details on each one of them.

The Venus de Milo is one of the most famous classical representation of the female beauty.

The Marble statue of Athena called La Pallas de Velletri

The Winged Victory of Samothrace

Who would not be familiar with The Mona Lisa, a painting of Leonardo da Vinci. Too popular that, this painting is encased in glass, and you can’t seem to appreciate it because so many people are crowding over it.

Classical Paintings

Having a break from admiring all the magnificent art pieces. Nice view from the outdoor terrace of Angelina, Cafe Richlieu, Louvre, Paris

View from the top of the Louvre

Next are some Sculptures

On the way out.

After our tiring walk around the Louvre, we rushed to our Farewell Dinner. And just like that our 23 day European tour was finished. It was such a wonderful experience visiting 9 countries and 30 cities.Very tiring but it was all worth it.

The next day we took the Eurostar from the Paris Gare du Nord station to St Pancras in London.

Wow, Teresa, what a wonderful trip. Were you as surprised as I was the Mona Lisa was such a small painting. I think the guard told us to step back. It is well guarded.

    1. Teresa says:

Yeah I was… haha surprised and a bit underwhelmed.

      1. Marsha says:

I was too. Maybe that’s why I got so close and a guard had to chase me away. I remember thinking as a kid, “Why do they call her a beauty?” She probably didn’t even have teeth. 🙂

        1. Teresa says:

Haha you made me chuckle… you’re funny Marsha 😂

I’m glad to lighten your day, even for a second. 🙂

Wonderful photos, Teresa! It’s easy to overload on so many significant pieces of art. I think that in itself would exhaust me!

It was our only free day so we had to make the most of it. And yes…so exhausted after that 😂 Thanks Dora!

I have visited Paris seven times (I think!) and never yet gone in the Louvre 🙄 Glad you got to see it though!

    1. Teresa says:

We had to see it even for a bit because we know we won’t be able to come back to it. It’s ok with you…you can go back there any time.

        Very true 🤩
