This week, Sarah is leading the Monochrome Madness Challenge with the theme “Beginning with an H”—and for me, it was an easy choice: Hungary.
I visited Budapest, the capital of Hungary, a few years ago, and it instantly became one of those cities that stayed with me long after I’ve left. For this post, I’m continuing my “travels in monochrome” series with Budapest—because honestly, this city doesn’t need colour to be beautiful.

There’s something magical about how the lights reflect on the Danube and how the whole city seems to glow in quiet elegance.

Up on the hill, Fisherman’s Bastion looked like something out of a storybook. I could’ve stayed there for hours just admiring its grandeur. .

The stone curves of the bastion framed the view like a dream, and even without colour, the scene felt alive and elegant, so full of quiet charm.

Just beside it, Matthias Church rises with gothic elegance, its silhouette etched against the sky.

Heroes’ Square, with its proud statues and open space, made me pause. In monochrome, it all felt deeper and timeless.

The Dohány Street Synagogue felt powerful and peaceful at the same time, its details even more striking without colour.

Hungary starts with an H, and for me, it also stands for harmony—of history, architecture, and atmosphere.

Monochrome gives it a majestic look
Thanks a lot 🩷
Beautiful monochromes Teresa
Glad you liked it, Brian. One of my favourite place.
I’m so glad H gave you an easy win. I loved this tour – thanks!
Sometimes it’s a happy coincidence—just as you’re planning a post, a theme pops up that fits perfectly with what you had in mind. Thanks Margaret
👍
I love this post Teresa! These buildings all look good in black and white, but especially so the night shots and that first one of Matthias Church 🙂 I also liked the way you’ve used frames for many of them. Budapest looks a beautiful city and one I’d love to visit some time.
Thanks for liking it, Sarah. I am surprised that you haven’t been to this country…maybe one day.
The nighttime shots are stunning, Teresa.
Those are my favourites too Elke. Glad you liked the night photos.
