Our Trafalgar tour was on its way to Budapest and we stopped by this lovely city on a hill…Esztergom!
We just stayed there for a few hours to look at the scenery but oh my gosh…the view was astounding.
You just have to see it to believe it! This is a post for Jo’s Monday Walk but it is not really … it is just a leisurely stroll around the Basilica.
The first thing we noticed was the grounds around the basilica was so wide and beautiful and so clean.
There were sculpture but weren’t able to find put more about it.
The Esztergom Basilica is the largest church in Hungary and sits high and mighty on top of Castle Hill. It isn’t just the largest but it is the tallest building in the country, with a dome that is 118 metres.
The entrance to the basilica are brightly coloured wooden doors with different shades of green.
The interior was also quite amazing.
On the side is wonderful tree lined garden.
But when we went out to view the scenery overlooking the Danube.. that is a different story!
What a beautiful post! The red roofs, the views, the leaves turning on the trees… oh and the doors! I love a good door and this place has them. I’d not heard of Esztergom until I read your post. Thanks for sharing.
