TRAVEL DIARY: TASMANIA 4
From Hobart, it’s about half an hour by car to Kettering where the ferry takes off for Bruny.

This is where we bought our tickets and boarded the ferry with our car.

It didn’t take long—just about 20 minutes, and we were back on land.

Bruny Island, just off the coast of Tasmania, is a haven of natural beauty and culinary delights. Renowned for its artisan cheese, beer and bread made from fresh, local ingredients, it’s the perfect destination for a scenic picnic. We ordered the Ploughman’s Platter which included a Cheese Platter, relish, mustard, Olives and also had Smoked Wallaby and Sourdough Bread. It didn’t look much but it did fill us all up.

Just before we left the Cheese Company, I asked them to wait for a moment because I spotted a beautifully coloured Bruny Book Box with windows by the side of the road.

Next stop was the Truganini Lookout. I read that it had 200 stairs to climb so I decided not to venture on it anymore.

We then chose to stroll along the right side of the boardwalk, taking in the rugged coastline and the vast, endless ocean. The soft, fine sands and crystal-clear waters created the perfect setting for relaxation and a leisurely walk.

As we drove off, we spotted a herd of black cows, with a few brown ones mixed in, all standing in a line.

Our next stop was the island’s lighthouse, perched atop a hill with breathtaking views. Initially, I was hesitant and told Jack and Pat that I’d wait for them at the bottom. However, they managed to convince me to join them, and I’m glad they did.

I successfully made it to the top and even took the time to sketch the stunning surroundings. It was such a rewarding and delightful experience.

By the time we made our way back down, we were starving—it was already close to 3 p.m. We figured seafood was the best choice, given the area’s proximity to the water. It turned out to be a fantastic decision; the fish and chips Jack and I ordered were incredibly juicy and flavourful.

After our late lunch, we took a leisurely stroll to unwind.

I got excited when I saw another lovely Book Box on the side of a waiting shed. The windows showing a number of books waiting to be read.

We left the island the same way we arrived, making our way back to the pier.

I am linking this to Jo’s Monday Walk and Monday Window
Lovely place.🥰
Thanks glad you liked it Arlene. Kamusta na?
Here I am, at last! I love being taken to places I’ve never been, Teresa, but Smoked Wallaby??? I’ll stick with the cheese and pickle (though it gives me heartburn). Love the book boxes! Thanks a lot for taking me along.
That was my first thought too. But since it was cut in small pieces, it was so tender and was tasty. My pleasure to take you on my walk, Jo.
Lovely variety of windows Teresa
Thanks for joining in 😀
Thanks Brian, funny that I and maybe you as well, get excited when I see windows and doors and chairs.
Thanks for taking us there Teresa, it’s still on my list of places to visit. Looks beautiful. Love your drawing of the lighthouse
Thanks Ali. I remember your post about Tasmania and you’ve been to more places. We lacked the time but I guess better than not going at all. Yes, Bruny Island is a great place to explore as it is so peaceful.
Hopefully will get back there one day
Me too. Fingers crossed
What a super day out! The lighthouse looks great with that lovely sky as a backdrop, the food looks and sounds yummy, and I love that bus stop with the book box and penguins 😀
So happy that I reached the top. It was such an amazing view and was glad that not many people were there to disturb the calmness. Thanks Sarah.
What a lovely trip!
Oh yes it was, thanks Hammad.
Thanks for sharing these beautiful places of the world
My pleasure Giuseppa. Thanks for stopping by.
