Landmarks in Budapest

This week’s challenge is from Johnbo, with the topic Landmarks & Monuments.

Since it’s such a vast subject, I decided to narrow it down to famous landmarks in Budapest, Hungary.

These places are all in relatively close proximity to one another: The Hungarian Parliament Building, just in front of the iconic Shoes along the Danube.

Fisherman’s Bastion, beside the beautiful Matthias Church.

The Dohány Street Synagogue, beside the Tree of Life, a memorial tree with leaves bearing the names of Holocaust victims.

I travelled to Budapest in November of 2018.

I loved Budapest when I visited 14 years ago. The shoes by the Danube was heartbreaking.

Oh I had to count and that was 8 years ago and it seems like yesterday when we went there. Yes the shoes by the Danube was really sad reflecting about it. Thanks Darlene for commenting.

Thanks Jo, if only I could go back.

  3. I was recently in Budapest and visited all of the places you posted pictures of. It’s a beautiful city. I found the “Shoes on the Danube Bank” to be an incredibly poignant and heart-wrenching monument. What an amazing city.

I agree. It is one of my favourite city as well. I won’t ever forget the feeling that you get while standing on the banks beside the Shoes on the Danube. Thanks for commenting Joel.

  4. You’ve given me a peek at the scenery there later next year. Thanks for the views.

I had to look up the Shoes on the Danube Memorial to learn what it is about. Sad to say, I was thinking I already knew.
