Shapes & Designs

Shapes and designs is the topic for this week’s Lens Artist Photo Challenge from Tina. This is such a vast topic that it’s hard to know where to start. So today, I’ve decided to narrow it down to architecture.., exploring forms and patterns found in Sydney, Melbourne, and Barcelona.

This is the State Library of Victoria in Melbourne CBD. It is Australia’s oldest public library and one of the first free public libraries in the world. It was established in 1854.

Circular balconies, layered levels, and soft curves wrap around the dome. The repeating shapes create balance, turning the space into both architecture and pattern.

The following are more iconic buildings, inside and out, that I have posted previously in my travel diary.

The Sydney Opera House is bold and sculptural. Its shell-like sails rise and fold, echoing waves, clouds, and movement along the harbour. And inide, the design reveals its hidden geometry. Strong ribs and angular lines stretch overhead

Gaudí’s Sagrada Família is organic and alive. Columns grow like trees, shapes melt into one another, and stone feels almost soft, as if shaped by nature itself.

Casa Batllo is another one of Gaudi’s masterpieces. Playful and fluid. No straight lines, only bones, scales, and flowing forms that feel more dream than building.

In addition to these amazing architecture is nature’s own architecture. Petals curve, repeat, and balance effortlessly, reminding me where all design begins.

Libraries are amazing. This one too. Thank goodness we are preserving and using books!

Yes, many people make good use of this library. But not too busy when we went.
