Modes of Transportation in Monochrome

This week’s Monochrome challenge is from Dawn, with the topic of Modes of Transportation

I have decided to separate it in three categories-by land, by water, and by air.

There are so many ways to get around by land – bikes and jeepneys zip through the Philippines, trains old and new roll through Porto, and sand dune rides in Ilocos add a thrill. London’s double-decker buses offer classic views, while bikes in Melbourne are often used to go to and from work. Lisbon’s trams climb steep streets, and tourist coaches in New Zealand glide through stunning landscapes. Each way adds its own vibe to the journey.

Water transport comes in all shapes and styles as well. In Lucerne, boats glide across the lake with beautiful architecture in the background. In Burano, colourful houses line quiet canals where small boats are parked nearby. In the Philippines, boats are part of everyday island life. Over in Bristol, people live on charming boat houses, while in Porto, old tourist boats float along the Douro River. In Aveiro, traditional moliceiro boats cruise through the canals, like a Portuguese version of Venice. New Zealand has its share of ferries and scenic cruises, and in St Kilda Pier in Melbourne, sleek yachts bob gently on the water.

And of course, there’s air travel—which I don’t really like, especially long haul flights—but it has to be done.

And I am enjoying looking back during those times.

  4. These are great. Hard for me to choose a favorite, but that Zebra striped Jeep is very cool, and Iove the variety of watercraft.

That opening shot could only be Manila! I enjoyed all your galleries. It was fun to spot the London bus in the first one but I think I liked the water set best of all 😀
