Today I’ve put together a variety of photos for Ritva’s Lens Artists Photo Challenge with the theme, Shoot from Above!
First is a close-up view from above which transforms a single bloom into an intricate composition, highlighting its natural symmetry.

A shot of coffee with barista designs showcases the intricate artistry of latte art, turning a simple cup of coffee into a visual masterpiece especially when taken from above.

While walking the streets during travels, it’s easy to overlook the beauty right beneath your feet. Sometimes, the ground tells its own story—unexpected designs, intricate patterns, and hidden art can surprise and delight.

And while in Europe, some of the most breathtaking sights can be found when looking at architecture from high above.
In Sintra, Portugal, for example, the vibrant colours of the Pena Palace stand out against lush green hills, creating a fairy-tale scene.

Looking down the winding staircase of 59 Rue de Rivoli in Paris—an iconic hub for art and creativity—reveals a vibrant and dynamic sight.

Looking down the interior of Casa Batlló in Barcelona is like gazing into the heart of Antoni Gaudí’s genius. The central light well is lined with tiles that transition from deep cobalt at the top to lighter blues and whites as they descend, creating a feeling of depth and illumination.

From the Dom Luís I Bridge in Porto, looking down is an awe-inspiring experience. The Douro River stretches below, dotted with traditional boats, while people walk along the bridge, their shadows cast onto the pavement. It looks like a living canvas.

Looking down at the intersection from the top of the Sky Garden in London offers such a dynamic and urban view, with the architecture and traffic creating a sense of movement and depth.

And lastly, as I’ve mentioned in some of my previous posts, that one of my favourite pastimes is Urban sketching. After completing a plein air sketch, we take part in a “throwdown,. A throwdown is when sketchers display their work, exchange ideas, and draw inspiration from one another’s creativity and perspectives by looking at the work from above.

Some great examples here, though I particularly like the first one.
Thanks Margaret.
Love the Porto shot looking down, Teresa, and Casa Batlo. You reminded me that I have a Gaudi shot that I like very much that would work for the challenge, if I could ever find it!
Fingers crossed you’ll find it. Thanks for the comment, Jo.
Difficult to pick a favourite. As a photo, I think I like the first green plant one best. But the Parisian staircase is very intriguing.
Got it. Glad you liked the plant and the Paris staircase. Thanks.
A wonderful gallery Teresa
Thanks Brian. 😍
The Barcelona photo is quite impressive, and the effect almost makes me feel uncomfortable.
Thanks for commenting ❤️
Loved the choices you made, from minimalist take to my favorite three shots, Dom Luís I Bridge in Porto, Casa Batlló and the intersection from the top of the Sky Garden in London. All these images have so much look at and wonder at. Thank for these lovely images Teresa.
Glad you liked my choices Ritva. Thanks.
That view from the Dom Luís I Bridge is fascinating – so much to pick out in that scene 🙂 My other favourite is your first one, which would make a great geometric square don’t you think?
Missed to link it to Becky’s. Never mind. Thanks for liking that Porto shot
Some amazing images this week Teresa, honestly I think this is one of my favorites ever! They’re all great.
Thanks Tina. It is great to see it from another angle.
Love all of these images! Looking down from that bridge made me dizzy!
Haha sorry it made you dizzy.
Wonderful choices this week – and I always love your drawings!
Thanks A-C! Same here, I think your drawings are amazing!
Now you are VERY kind – but I love those short, relaxing moments!
Great perspectives, some dizzying! Well done.
That’s 2 of you who got dizzy. Sorry about that haha
The sky garden is on my ‘must visit’ list!
I am hoping it will all push through for you!
Coffee is the perfect example of something you always see from above. Lovely shots, all of them
Yes, especially for millennial but I do it all the time too!
