BRIGHTON & ST KILDA
We had this walk on the 1st of April 2024. First stop was the Beach Boxes in Brighton which is a popular free destination whenever somebody from overseas comes along. Jack, Pilar and I walked from one end to the other, taking in the vibrant and varied designs of the houses and its doors.
A 10 minutes drive took us to Luna Park where we met up with my niece, Pam. Luna Park St Kilda is one of the world’s oldest amusement park, having been opened on 13 December 1912.
Right beside it is the Palais Theatre which was designed in 1926 by Henry E. White and built in 1927. This is a great example of Art Deco architecture.
A few minutes walk to Acland Street where we found these large murals. It’s a Koala by Jimmy Dvate on the intersection and the DJ Cox Mural by Lynch on Acland Street.
The artworks at the local Woolworths Supermarket in St Kilda showcase Luna Park and the classic Melbourne tram. Thanks to local graffiti artists, the space has been transformed into a vibrant and welcoming environment.
Next was lunch at La Roche St Kilda .
After lunch we set off to search for the work of Bronik which I feature previously here. But aside from her work we saw a lot more unexpected art pieces. We continued walking aimlessly and saw this 3D tiled mural in Barkley Street. Not sure who the artist was.
Passed by some colourful chairs and benches and a huge mural outside a the modern Nomad hostel.
Here is one of Bronik’s work named Melbourne Senorita in Jackson Street.
And in the corner of Fitzroy St and Jackson Street there were more murals.
It was my first visit to this part of St Kilda, and I was delighted by the stunning murals. My family seemed quite impressed as well.
I love the colourful beach boxes! Wow, and such amazing murals – I’m sure one can walk here without even realising how far you’re walking!
I know, right. It was such a joy walking around. Thanks, glad you find it amazing as well.
There’s no shortage of artists in Melbourne, Teresa. I love that crazy mural of Luna Palace, and wouldn’t you just love to own one of those beach boxes! Thanks for linking, darlin!
OMG that Beach box would be the same price as my house haha It’s my pleasure to share on your challenge, Jo!
Really? I’d better buy two, Teresa. Laughing…
Haha you’re funny.
What a cheery post!
Thanks Margaret. We had fun! 👍
Colourful and fun! Well captured!
Thanks Nes.
What a lovely walk, and what a bright, beautiful post to start the morning with. We have a photo of the (some) beach huts taken and framed by a friend of ours in England. I love the colors. Tanks for taking us along with you.
Glad you liked my bright post. Good morning to you and I shall be off to snooze land now.
Good night.
What you call Beach Boxes are what we call Beach Huts, and yours are super colourful! I also love the murals, especially the koala and the man in the hoodie with the city scene 🙂
Glad you liked them, Sarah. But people keep on drawing over them so hopefully it would still be there the next time.
Fabulous post. Beach hut doors, what’s not to like? I especially liked the VW mural door.
Thanks Scooj, that’s a popular one for selfies.
Wow! So much colour. I especially like the mermaid mural. And that lunch looks tasty! 😄
Thanks Gloria, I love the works of that mural artist. If you get the chance I put a link to my past walk of her work.
Have a great week.
What a fun public art walk! Thanks for sharing with us. 💖
Glad you enjoyed it. I am happy to see murals and public art … always! Thanks Amy.
Being landlocked here, I think fresh seafood must be Devine!! Thanks for including the food pics! ☺️
We always enjoy good food, so I try to put our food haha Thanks for stopping by.
I love the colourful beach huts and murals. Isn’t it delightful to walk aimlessly and discover some interesting art? Thank you for your PPAC contribution. Have a wonderful weekend!
Some of these are very familiar to me Teresa, especially the Brighton Beach beach chalets. I haven’t come across the St. Kilda ones and yet we are there twice a year! Will have to be more observant.
Great photos
Well I haven’t seen it and I am from here. You just have to be committed to search for the streetart because if not, then you will really miss it. Thanks Ali.
Very true
Lovely and vibrant colors especially the street murals and boxes. Such an exciting share of art and community connections. I enjoyed your share, Teresa. Lunch looks delicious!
Thanks so much Suzette. This is what I love about it … Melbourne’s colourful art.
Love those beach boxes. What a colorful place. That lunch looks amazing!!
Thanks Kitstin. A day won’t be complete without great food! 👍
Everything is so bright and colorful!
