“Every picture tells a story…”
“Resting Place” is an installation located near the corner of Little Lonsdale Street and Swanston Walk, in front of the State Library. It is a whimsy sculpture of Bronwyn Snow (made in 1994 as commissioned by the city of Melbourne) which is a combination of aesthetic and function. It is a double-sided bench made of steel and jarrah with giant steel sunflowers and ivy.
According to Snow, this is ‘a stopping point, a resting place for the weary spiritual traveller’.
But on the other side of this chair lies a different story… a picture of gloom. It is where a homeless person sleeps at night without a roof on his/her head and just traces of empty can and food wrappers left on the side.

Oh dear. A salutary tale that life really isn’t always easy.
Yes, Margaret, homelessness doesn’t just happen in third world countries! So sad.
the reality of life, T. lovely bench, though! 🙂
Thanks Wi! Have a great week ahead!
The bench is gorgeous. So sad that someone needs to sleep there.
Yes, there are many homeless people in the city. It is such a pity. But then again…I think the Australian government are providing enough so I don’t really know the reason why.
