“It is always sad to leave a place to which one knows one will never return. Such are the melancolies du Voyage: perhaps they are one of the most rewarding things about travelling.” – unknown

On the 17th of November, 2018 we went on a day trip to Szentendre (St Andrews), just 40 minutes away from the main city of Budapest.

The place is so pretty and we highly recommend it if you have a half a day to spare during your trip to Budapest.

It is basically a small town but there were so many things to see… shops selling Hungarian authentic crafts in particular.

This is the main square called Fő Tér. The alleyways around it are lined with art galleries and museums that’s why some call it ‘the Artist town’.

Had lunch at Rab Raby Etterem restaurant. There was a cooking demonstration for an authentic Hungarian goulash and we also had that for our lunch. It was very delicious and hearty.

You have a delightful collection of scenes today. I love the doors, the bicycles, the laneways and how colorful everything is. I agree, it looks like a wonderful side trip.
It was such a delight to see everything. Thanks for the comment Dan ❤️
What a lovely side trip, Teresa. Never heard of this one.
It was an optional tour, glad we joined 👍
Wow, you hit the jackpot! I love the umbrellas that look like they are floating Mary Poppins-style. The lampshades are a hoot, too. Who thinks to do that kind of thing? LOL They must be so bright that we need shades to protect us from their brilliance! 🙂 Very cool post, Teresa. 🙂
I know, it is an artist’s haven. We were like kids excited to see everything. Thanks Marsha, glad you liked this post.
I bet. It looks like the most fun place ever! Adult Disneyland!
Woohoo 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
So many beautiful places, so much to see! Your photos are stunning! I have never heard of this place before!
Thanks Aletta. The less popular the better… not too busy!
Absolutely 😊
Fantastic post, Teresa 👏 What a wonderful place 😃
Glad you liked it. It was an enjoyable place to visit!
I’ve never heard of Szentendre but it does indeed look quaint 🙂 I love the cobbled alleyways, the colourful umbrellas and lamp-shades, the beautiful church. My favourite shot I think is the one of the row of shops with large wooden doors and wooden shutters above.
Happy that you loved it as well Sarah. It is a hidden gem and is a visit to Hungary’s countryside.
Charming town. Those little places to eat look fun.
They are so pretty 👍 Thanks
I have yet to have gone anywhere in Eastern Europe. I would like to go…it just seems so colorful compared to my many trips to Western or Central Europe.
Yes, I guess searching in Instagram helps.
