Window Shopping in Obidos

Obidos is a charming town not too far from Lisbon. It has narrow cobbled streets with whitewashed homes, accented with bright blue or red or yellow detailing, red tiled roofs and spreading purple bougainvillea blooms.

It is a tiny town but it has a castle, churches, restaurants and a maze of cobbled alleyways. But that is a story for another time… today’s challenge is Window Shopping, from Ritva. I am also linking this to Johnbo’s Cellpic Sunday.

I will now take you to Obidos’ main street, Rua Direita.

Peeking through windows…

Outside wired window displays…

Lots of Ginja’s on window sills displays. The “ginja de Óbidos,” or “ginjinha” is a famous local drink of cherry liqueur often served in a chocolate cup. It originated with 17th-century monks from the region, who combined Morello cherries and brandy, and drank it as an aperitif or after dinner.

Bread and cute ceramic displays

And such charming window displays just ready for anyone to buy.

A daytrip from Lisbon not to be missed.

You really captured the charm of Óbidos, one of my favourite places in Portugal. Lovely photos, Teresa. Did you try the ginjinha?

    1. Teresa says:

Sorry, no I didn’t… I am boring. I don’t like the taste of any wines or alcohol. 🤷🏻‍♀️
