The Splendour of Monaco

“I avoid looking back. I prefer good memories to regrets.” – Grace Kelly

Monaco is one of the world’s smallest country (second only to the Vatican). And so as not to be confused, Monaco is very small but essentially has everything that is expected of a regular country and Monte Carlo is a neighborhood inside Monaco.

As our tour bus went on its way inside Monaco, I noticed that the streets and buildings were perfectly clean and spotless. It’s as if we were driving through a movie set with all the rich and famous people passing by.

The magnificent bird’s eye view of the buildings, the yachts and Monaco’s concrete jungle skyline.

The many buildings looked so elegant.

One of the colourful streets of Monaco. This is one of my most favourite alleyway view with an old lady walking in the middle.

Here you can see the grand steps leading to the circular law courts, with its unique and beautiful architecture.

The Yellow Submarine at the Oceanographic Museum in Monte Carlo, was built in 1966, the same year the Beatles song of the same title was released.

This is the Palais du Prince in Monaco’s Old Town, which became the home to the glamorous Grace Kelly who married the Prince of Monaco, Rainier III.

Today this is home to Prince Albert II and serves as a public museum with a fine collection of art and antique cars within the grounds.

The Saint Nicholas Cathedral or the Monaco Cathedral is the cathedral of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Monaco in Monaco-Ville in Monaco. This is the church where Grace Kelly was buried. This cathedral is beautiful by day and is also amazing when the lights are turned on at night time.

We had a one good last look at the magnificent view over the marina as the sun was setting and all the lights were beginning to shine and sparkle over the night sky.

This is the Monte Carlo Casino. I bet you won’t be able to take your eyes off the lavish luxury cars lined outside the casino… those Bentleys, Rolls Royces, Ferraris, Lamborghinis…

The Monte Carlo Casino has been featured in a number of Hollywood films and is one of the most popular casinos in the world… with its stunning architecture and its opulent decor. We were all too often reminded that we weren’t allowed to wear runners if we planned to go in the casino.

Had this group photo with all the members of the tour group to remind us of good times.

I agree with you about that alleyway photo – it’s lovely! When we went to Monaco for a football match it was strange to see these elegant streets full of fans from both sides, singing and shouting as football fans do 😆

That must have been a fun experience. Were you able to spend a but of time there?

No not really. We stayed in Nice (a bit cheaper!) and got the train into Monte Carlo. We had a bit of time to walk around – we saw part of the grand prix route, I remember, and a great view down to the marina. After the match we went straight to the station but there was quite a wait for a train so we had a beer in a nearby square with some of the other fans 🙂

That seems to be quite an experience, Sarah! At least you were able to see some parts of the amazing place.
