Sit & Knit

Spotted these two red chairs in the town of Te Anau, NZ—right by the lake and just too cute to ignore. Te Anau’s known as the gateway to Fiordland, but honestly, it’s got its own quiet charm that makes you want to stay a little longer. The chairs had a little sign that said ‘Sit & Knit’—no yarn, no needles on me, but I definitely sat and soaked up the view. Close enough, right?

Back story:

“Sit & Knit” isn’t something that started in one place—it’s just what people have always done. For years, friends have been getting together to knit, chat, and relax. It might be called Stitch & Bitch or Knit & Natter in other places, but it all means the same thing: bring your knitting, sit down, and enjoy the company.

These meetups can happen in cafes, libraries, or someone’s home. It’s not about being perfect—it’s about slowing down, sharing stories, and making something with your hands.

More so for people who know how to knit. But I don’t…but still a cool idea. Thanks Mama.

I know how to knit but you would never ever want anything I’ve knitted – I have tendency to thrown in dropped stitches and tension changes!

I’d cheerfully sit awhile.. But I don’t knit either.

I would so do this – if I could still knit. And you can’t overlook those chairs!
