The St Kilda Kiosk, perched at the end of the St Kilda Pier, has been a familiar landmark since the early 1900s. Originally built in 1904, it served refreshments to the many locals and visitors who flocked to the pier for seaside strolls and boat trips. The building, with its distinctive Edwardian design, became a beloved icon of Melbourne’s bayside.
Tragically, it was destroyed by fire in 2003, but due to public support and heritage value, it was rebuilt in 2006 to match the original design. The Red Door is quite eye catching even from afar.

As of July 2025, the St Kilda Pier Kiosk remains closed. While the newly redeveloped St Kilda Pier officially reopened in December 2024, the kiosk itself is still awaiting the appointment of a new operator and is expected to reopen towards the end of 2025 .

Ooh love it Teresa! I have featured this one too before!
Oh I just checked. I haven’t shared it yet but it’s in my collection. I love that spot.
Well I have to wait for that post to be published then. Thanks Wayne.
Haha you sure will.
What a lovely building and a great red square, Teresa xx
Thanks Jo, 2 birds with one stone hey!
I was thinking ooh I don’t remember this fab red door, and then reading the dates I discovered why – I sadly got to miss it in 2004!
Oh well, you got to see it now
Wonderful red doors Teresa
Thanks Brian. It is a good looking door right?
The whole building is as well
A wonderful story of restoration. Piers seem to be highly susceptible to fires. I love the round window and door surrounds – reminiscent of a hobbit home.
Oh yes it does… like in New Zealand?
A lovely feature, and I’m glad it was rebuilt to the same design.
Glad it was too and not modernised.
A lovely building and the doors are great, red is my favourite colour 😊
Red is a great vibrant colour especially on doors! Thanks Eunice.
red door is always striking
It is heartwarming to know that the building was rebuilt and its fine architectural legacy restored. Love the whole look of the building and a very smart red door. Thank you for the historical background. Much appreciated.
That’s a lovely building. I’m so glad it was rebuilt after the fire. I love that red door.
The beauty of red…makes me sigh.
