Walking Up Petrin Hill

“The best view comes after the hardest climb.” – unknown

This was in November of 2018.

I read that Petrin Hill is a must see and it is very easy to reach it by getting on a funicular. So on one of our “not too hectic” days in Prague, we decided to go. But when we got to the funicular stop, it said that it wasn’t running for a few days..

What are we gonna do? We were still on this flat area when we were trying to decide. Then we saw a couple that were walking back and we asked them how it was and they said that it was not too bad. They even told us which way to go for an easier path. They said that there was a shorter but harder choice or a longer but not too steep way.

So that second option was what we chose to do…longer and easier it is.

So we decided to push through and as we went higher the view became more and more breathtaking. Petrin Hill rises over 130m above the Vltava River, making it the perfect place for the stunning view of the city.

Although we were huffing and puffing, we eventually reached the top where we saw the Petrin tower, which was resembling the Eiffel Tower. But because we already walked all the way up the hill, we didn’t have the stamina to go up the tower which is 299 steps.

The Church of Saint Lawrence in Prague is located on Petřín hill, next to Petřín Lookout Tower. It was originally a Romanesque church, later rebuilt in the Baroque style by Kilian Ignaz Dientzenhofer.

One of the Way of the Cross signs scattered around the church.

More of the 14 stops representing the Lord’s Way to Calvary.

Going back we just followed all the rest of the people who were on their way down…really had no idea where we were heading. We just soaked up the view and hoped for the best.

Little did we know that the road we were treading was kinda easy at first but when we were about halfway down we will get to the steep cobbled streets. By that time my feet were already screaming and as you may already know walking on cobblestone streets isn’t fun.

Whoah 22162 steps for the day is one awesome hike and was out in an instant when we got to our hotel room.!

Hope you enjoyed walking with me up and down Petrin Hill for Amy’s Lens Artist Photo Challenge- Walking Up Petrin Hill

This was a beautiful walk Teresa. Prague is truly one of my favorite cities. I loved that you took us outside the city to see it from a different perspective. Love to go back there one day, looks like you had an amazing visit. Good job on the steps. Hope there was a good treat to compliment the energy burned. Donna

Yes, you have to find it next time, and maybe the funicular will be up and running then. But yes, great cardio!
