This is the St James Church on the bustling intersection in Sydney.

Walking on the right side of the church I noticed a homeless person covering himself in a blanket with only his feet protruding. But then I thought, is it a real person or just a sculpture?

Looking at it more closely, I noticed that it had a deep cut on its left feet… then I knew it must be Jesus.

This is a sculpture located in the busy intersection of St James’ Church in King St, Sydney. The figure is a statue of the “Homeless Jesus.” by Canadian artist Timothy Schmalz.
Visual art is a way of preaching, and this is one of them being such a powerful experience. It teaches compassion as in the Gospel Matthew 25:34-46.
And as the artist Schmalz says in his words…“Like this passage, the sculpture reveals almost at the end of the visual experience that it is Jesus … At first you just see it is a statue of a homeless person but with closer investigation, you realise it’s Jesus.”
I am linking this to Debbie’s 6WS
A clever idea that would make believer and non-believer alike stop in their tracks.
I don’t know about that … among the four of us walking, it was only me who saw it haha thanks for the comment Margaret.
The ever-observant photographer …
This is a very emotionally moving statue. I think JC would be pleased at this interpretation.
I think He would be. I was moved by it too.
I forwarded the link to my parents. They are activists to end homelessness. They found the sculpture very moving.
Glad you liked it. I was so moved as well when I saw it.
