Lucerne in Monochrome

There’s no set theme for this week’s Monochrome Madness Challenge, so I’ve decided to feature monochrome shots from my travels.

The River Reuss flows through Lucerne and beneath the Chapel Bridge, Europe’s oldest covered wooden bridge and the city’s iconic landmark.

Across bridges and spires, monuments and lampposts, Lucerne whispers in monochrome.

A Cruise through stillness and reflection in Lake Lucerne.

Great shots. I particularly like the sleeping lion in the cave – do you know why it’s there?

    1. Teresa says:

It is in memory of the Swiss Guards who died in 1792 while protecting King Louis XVI during the French Revolution The lion is shown wounded, pierced by a spear, yet still noble and dignified.

      1. Eunice says:

Thanks for the explanation, though it makes me feel sad for the lion 🙁

I’ve never been to Luzern but my first long essay at university dealt with an early form of theatre with simultaneous stageing areas during the middle ages. I’ve always wanted to go.

It is beautiful and so serene in most places. Nice to know that you still
remember your first essay…because I certainly don’t. Haha
