Whenever I travel, I always find myself drawn to churches. There’s something about stepping inside—whether it’s the quiet, the history, or the light filtering through stained glass—that instantly grounds me.
This week’s theme for John’s Lens Artist Photo Challenge is Lines, Colours, and Patterns. I’ve chosen to focus on leading lines in churches—a powerful visual tool that draws the viewer’s eye through the space, often guiding it toward something sacred or symbolic, like the altar, a stained glass window, or the cross.
Architects and artists have long used lines in floors, arches, pews, and even ceiling beams to create a natural sense of movement and direction. These lines don’t just organize the space—they also help tell a spiritual story. Whether it’s the aisle drawing you forward or the soaring columns lifting your gaze upward, the lines subtly encourage reflection, awe, and a sense of being led somewhere greater.

Teresa, leading lines are an important architectural element for churches, for sure! Beautiful examples!
Thanks so much Johnbo. I always post about facades so I decided to have the interior patterns for this one.

My camera doesn’t do it justice too but it’s still in our memory and that’s the good part. Thanks for commenting.
