“You need some reason why Beethoven, Mozart, and Haydn in the 18th century all flocked to Vienna. What was it about Vienna? They must have known on some level that that is where they would flourish. It’s what biologists call selective migration.” – Eric Weiner
Situated in the very heart of Vienna’s City center, the Albertina houses one of the most important art collections of the world. When we went there in 2018, we feasted our eyes to the biggest collection of Monet art pieces!

After a few hours at the Albertina we went on an Optional tour of the Schonbrunn Palace and Gardens. It is an amazing journey through the centuries of Hapsburg rule.
The moment that we entered the gates of the Schonbrunn Palace, we were fascinated with its grandeur. This palace was built for Maria Theresa, the only female ruler of the Habsburg. Schonbrunn was their summer residence.
Across the gardens, up the crest of the hill is the columns, arches and sculptures of the Gloriette.
The park behind the palace is a vast area of gardens and statues. This area is free of charge and any one can roam around the endless pathways. I have here some of the statues that I love because of their attention to details, especially on how the material flows.
The next shots are inside the magnificent rooms at the Schonbrunn, showing the extravagance and opulence of the place.
Went back to our hotel, freshened up then attended an Optional dinner followed by a Viennese Concert at the Kursalon. It was a fun night with classical music mixed with comedy.
A glass of wine during the interval simply enhanced the experience.
And just like that… it was goodbye and cheers to Vienna!
What an elegant city. The statue on your cover is rather arresting. Was that John the Baptist. Can you imagine a young woman carrying a head? These statues are remarkable.I bet you are so glad you have the picture. Thanks for linking up with PPAC today. 🙂
Thanks for the comment Marsha. I am not sure who they are, I just know that all the sculptures are perfect! These photos are in my memory forever!
What a magical place is Schonbrunn, Teresa. I enjoyed visiting with you. Happy weekend!
Glad you came along. Have a good weekend too, Jo!
Thanks for the many nice impressions of Vienna.
Glad you liked it!
Sounds like a pretty perfect day! I love what they’ve done with that flight of steps 😮 And Schonbrunn always looks gorgeous but especially in the lovely sunshine you had there!
Oh yes, Sarah … the blue sunny sky was a great backdrop!
You’ve whetted my appetite for Vienna, which has been on our Must Visit list for quite a while.
