TRAVEL DIARY: MORNINGTON PENINSULA

Time went by so fast, and it has been more than three months now that my sister and my niece visited me here in Melbourne. Jack and I took them to Arthur’s Seat Eagle.

Arthur’s Seat is a picturesque coastal landmark situated on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, Australia.

We went there when we first arrived in Australia in 1991. These were the original seats that operated during that time. We took the chairlift, together with my then one year old son, Tim, with our feet dangling. Looked dangerous doesn’t it?

Here we were in 2024, in a replica of that original chair.

In 2006, it closed because of several safety issues and officially reopened in 2016.

Now this is how the gondola looks like.

We proceeded to the opposite end of the ride and strolled along a dirt road. This natural wonder presents stunning panoramic views of Port Phillip Bay, Melbourne’s city skyline, and the surrounding countryside.

We passed by the Matthew Flinders Memorial. The cairn was erected in memory of British navigator Matthew Flinders (1774 – 1814) who climbed Arthur`s Seat in April 1802.

We drove to Sorrento (not the one in Italy), and then enjoyed lunch at the appropriately named cafe, “the Sisters.”

We walked to the beach and indulged in a Vanilla slice during our walk. Wondering why Vanilla slice? Apparently, “The Vanilla Slice Cafe” in Sorrento boasts the best in town.

We drove further to Portsea, a quaint village situated at the tip of the Mornington Peninsula. Jack and Pam strolled down the boardwalk, while my sister and I lingered behind, capturing our memorable day through my sketches.

This was on the 26th of March 2024

I love those chairlifts, Teresa, but they never feel entirely safe. It’s as close as I get to a thrill ride because I don’t like fairgrounds. Thanks, sweetheart! Have a great week 🤗🩷

Haha cause when you look at it, it’s just like you’re hanging by a thread.

Wonderful views, and although I enjoy a gondola I love the slight thrill of a chairlift even more! What a lovely day out you had 😃
