A place where animals are protected in their natural habitat is called a sanctuary
This week, Tina hosts the Lens-Artists Photo Challenge with the topic of HABITAT.
Last April, I took my sister and niece to the Moonlit Sanctuary Wildlife Conservation Park in Pearcedale, Victoria. The Moonlit Sanctuary is an award-winning wildlife park located 50 minutes southeast of Melbourne’s CBD and is home to many Australian animals.
Koalas live in the eucalyptus forests of southeastern and eastern Australia. They depend on eucalyptus trees for their homes and food. Koalas can munch on over a pound of eucalyptus leaves every day.
When not sleeping, they’re usually eating.
Kangaroos have strong back legs, a long, sturdy tail, and small front legs. They belong to the animal family called Macropus, which means “big foot” in Latin.
The Laughing Kookaburra is a big bird in the kingfisher family known for its distinctive call or laughter. It’s mostly off-white with brown stripes on its wings.
The pink cockatoo is among many species now classed as threatened or endangered.
The Forest Red-tailed Black Cockatoo is considered a rare animal that might be extinct.
The Emu is Australia’s tallest native bird, reaching between 1.6 m and 1.9 m when standing erect. Adult Emus are covered with shaggy grey-brown feathers.
Wombats are short-legged, muscular quadrupedal marsupials of the family Vombatidae that are native to Australia.

Amazing animals.
Thanks Rebecca. Though I might share some animals that is not well known to other parts of the world.
Yes, those are especially wonderful to see; wombats, and other specialties of down under.
Wonderful place to visit! Love the colours on the cockatoos (those shades of pink & blues! Stunning)
Thanks so much Ju-Lyn. Sometimes it is great to have visitors because I get to see places that I would otherwise not have gone to.
I hear you! We often find that’s the case for us too!
What a lovely post: quite a zoo’s worth of creatures here!
Thanks Margaret. Some of the animals are roaming around freely unlike the usual zoos.
The wombat is adorable and who can ever resist a koala?
Australia has the most amazing variety of unusual creatures Teresa, thanks so much for sharing them. How can one not love a koala?!?!?!
Glad you liked them. But most of the animals are nocturnal so I guess that’s why the place is called Moonlit Sanctuary. Maybe next time will have yo go there at night.
Great great photos. Fascinating animals ‘down under’. 👏👏
Thanks John.
