I’m thrilled because my sister from the Philippines is finally visiting me here in Melbourne for the first time. Despite living here since 1991, I’ve always been the one to visit her because she felt Melbourne was too far. But now, she’s finally making the journey, arriving at midnight, and I couldn’t be more excited.
For Tina’s challenge this week on “People,” I’ve decided to share nostalgic photos of individuals from my homeland, the Philippines. These images capture moments from years past, some taken by me and others by my children.
From the streets of Manila, children, mothers, street sweepers and a guard.
People selling their wares walking around the busy city. I wonder how they can do it, day in and day out, in the heat.
When I went to my old school, University of Santo Tomas, which is Asia’s oldest existing university. It was fun seeing students sketching the sculpture … just like the good old times.

These are beautiful captures of ordinary people leading their daily lives. Though they were taken more than ten years ago, a lot of it is still familiar. They reflect the spirit of the people.
I know, time flies. But going to the Philippines is the same feeling.

What an exciting reason for being inspired to post this! Have a great time. And it’s interesting to see how your photography has developed in the last 14 years, though even then you were good at something I find tough – photos of strangers.
Photos of strangers is always hard to do. It is a talent but definitely not my strongest one. Thanks Margaret for liking it though. Some of these were taken by my son with his first SLR camera. He has gone a long way too.
